Our book club paid $30 for a fancy annotated edition and nobody read the footnotes

Joined a similar thing last year with a fancy edition of Moby Dick. The footnotes were all about whaling history, and by page 50 I was the only one still reading them out loud. The rest of the group just wanted to talk about the whale being a metaphor. Nobody cared that harpoons had to be barbed a certain way to stick. Spent $38 on that book and it's basically a coaster now.

Changed my mind about the Cahokia mounds after walking them last week

Wait, London around 1300AD was bigger than that actually, around 80k people.

Condemned my tent after 4 years of use until a patch kit saved it last weekend

My old tent had a zipper fail on me two years ago. Duct tape got me through that trip. Kept using it for six more months before the whole thing sagged in the middle and looked like a sad circus tent. Patches are like band-aids for tents. They work until something else breaks. I'd say use it until it fails again then buy the new one.

I don't get why everyone loves compressed air for cleaning shutters

Wait, did you try canned air or an actual compressor? I used a little air blower on an old Zenit once and it just blew a cobweb deeper into the mirror box, ended up with a spiderweb on my focusing screen!

Why does nobody talk about how fast you go through dish soap when you hand-wash everything?

Oh man, I feel this so hard. Same situation, small apartment, no dishwasher. I honestly thought I was the only one going through soap like crazy. I did the same thing, tracked it for a month, and I swear I burned through a 16-ounce bottle in like 18 days. It's brutal. I tried cutting back but then my plates feel slick and greasy and it drives me nuts. You're not alone, this is just how it is for us hand-washers.
