The week a sandbar showed up and wrecked my production numbers

Got a sandbar story from a few years back on the Ohio River. Was moving along fine then my cutterhead just locked up solid. Turns out a whole pile of old car tires and concrete blocks had washed down from upstream and settled right where I was digging. Took me a day and a half just to get the cutterhead clear and another two days to work through that mess. Surprised me how fast that stuff can pile up and mess with production.

Took me 3 hours to realize I was digging in the wrong spot at a site near Flagstaff

Read somewhere that even pros mess up like this sometimes. There's a famous story about a guy who spent weeks excavating what he thought was a Roman villa but it turned out to be a natural rock formation. Makes you feel a little better, right?

TIL a half inch off my hammer handle changed everything

Man that's wild how such a small change can mess with your whole rhythm. It's like when I swapped my hockey stick for one that was just a quarter inch shorter and suddenly my wrist shots were hitting corners I couldn't reach before. Kinda makes you wonder how many little things we just accept as normal without ever trying the alternative, ya know? Sometimes the smallest tweak unlocks something your body was already trying to tell you.

I finally caved and tried those fancy automatic taper tools

Isnt it wild how we get stuck in our ways about stuff like this? Feels like the same thing with guys who swear by hand saws and wont touch a circular saw, or people who think a manual transmission makes them a better driver.

Dropped a whole hotel banquet salad station 10 minutes before service

Did you guys get written up for that? The walk in trick saved me once too when we dropped a whole cambro of sauce right before a rush... just grabbed whatever was close and nobody said a word.
