My backup drive gave out in a cafe in Medellin and I almost lost a month's work

It was a Seagate 2TB portable, just over a year old. I was working on a big client project and heard a loud click, then the drive just vanished from my laptop. This was two days ago. I had to find a local repair shop that could do data recovery, which cost me $250. Has anyone found a more reliable brand for carrying all your work around?

Seagate's fine, you just got unlucky.

Had two Seagate drives fail in a row. Switched to backing up to a NAS with WD Reds. Haven't lost data since.
