Found out installing solar panels on my 1920s house roof needs special brackets. Cost me an extra $400.

I was reading this forum post about older homes and solar installs. Apparently the roof structure on my place isn't standard so the regular racking wont work. Called three installers and they all quoted around $400 more for custom mounting. Did anyone else get hit with this kind of surprise fee?

Honestly that stings, my 1920s place hit me with the same surprise fee too.

Friend tried the same thing and his roofer refused to touch the brackets at all.
