PSA: Stop stretching residential carpet the same way you do commercial
I keep seeing guys on here cranking residential carpet as tight as a commercial glue-down, and it's causing seams to split after a year or two. I learned this the hard way after replacing 600 square feet in a house in Phoenix because the previous installer pulled it too tight and it all shrunk back. Has anyone else had to fix a job over this?

Oh man, that's rough! One thing I don't see people mention is that residential carpet has way more backing stretch than commercial stuff, so if you crank it tight it just keeps pulling back on itself like a rubber band. The heat in Phoenix probably made that even worse since the backing relaxes and lets go of all that tension over time.

Did you try a different pad thickness with that stretch, @robinson.matthew?
