I finally pushed back on the 'always stretch tight' rule and it cost me
Everyone says you need to stretch carpet super tight to avoid wrinkles, but I tried a lighter stretch on a bedroom job and the edges curled up in a week. The room had a weird angle, and my gentle pull left too much slack near the wall. I ended up re-stretching the whole thing after the customer called, which was embarrassing and took extra time. Now I'm firm that you should never ease up on the tension, even if it feels like overkill.

Pull it tight every time, even in weird rooms. Slack always moves to the walls and curls up. Good installers know not to cut corners.

A knee-kicker in the tricky corners helps lock that last bit in place before it creeps back.
