Can we talk about cheap digital thermometers?

I wasted $40 on a no-name one that was off by 25 degrees. My brisket came out tough because I pulled it too early. What brand do you all trust for accurate temps?

My buddy had the same thing happen with a pork shoulder last summer. He bought some random thermometer from a discount site and it read 190 when the meat was actually still at 165. He ended up with this dry, chewy mess that was basically inedible. He switched to a Thermoworks Thermapen and hasn't had a single problem since. The price stings at first but it's worth it to not ruin good meat.

Ever have a friend who swears by those cheap oven thermometers? Mine did until his ribs came out like leather. Tbh, @harris.zara, your buddy's story reminds me of that. He checked the temp and it said safe, but the chicken was still pink near the bone. He had to toss the whole thing.
