Update: My photo editing style caused a split in our camera club
I shared some portraits where I boosted the colors a lot, and now our club is divided. Half the group says vivid edits make photos pop and catch the eye better. The other half, including some older members, think natural tones are more honest and lasting. For instance, my sunset shot with enhanced reds got tons of likes online but criticism in person. The natural side says over-editing dates your work and hides real skill. I like both looks, so I'm stuck in the middle on this. What's your take? Should we go bold with colors or keep it real?

One thing I don't hear mentioned much is the intent of the photo. A vivid edit for a festival poster is one thing, but a soft edit for a family portrait might fit better. The style should serve the photo's purpose.

Isn't that true for so many things? We get caught up in the details and forget the bigger picture of what we're even trying to do.

Remember my friend who edited a landscape until the sky looked neon purple. He won a local contest with it, but when he tried to sell prints, people said it looked cheap and fake. He learned that turning the sliders all the way up can grab quick attention, but it often pushes away the people who look closer. His real success came later with more balanced work that still had his style, just not so loud. The flashy edit is still on his wall as a reminder that style should add to a photo, not fight with it.
