I finally figured out why our inventory counts were always off

For months, my team in Atlanta was doing manual counts at the end of the day, which was taking forever. The tip-off was a new hire who asked why we didn't just scan items as they were pulled from the shelf. Has anyone else switched to a real-time scanning system?

Remember when sourcing a specific shade of dusty blue delphinium for a wedding arch took me almost 3 weeks back in 2019, calling every grower from here to Seattle?

It makes you wonder how much easier some things would be now with all the direct grower networks we have online, doesn't it?

Rant: My old way of handling color frit was a total mess

For the first two years, I'd just grab a pinch of frit from the jar and toss it onto the hot glass (you know, the classic 'hope for the best' method). About six months ago, I saw a demo where the artist pre-weighed tiny amounts onto a steel marver. I tried it with just 0.2 grams per color, and the control is insane now. My color distribution is way more even, and I waste way less expensive frit. It added maybe 30 seconds to my setup, but the results are so much cleaner. Has anyone else switched to a more measured approach for frit work, or am I just overthinking it?
