The day I stopped trusting the default zone list on a Honeywell Vista panel

Remember when we all just trusted the default programming on those old DSC panels? I mean, I wired up a whole system once where the keypad beeped every 30 seconds for a "trouble" condition. Drove the homeowner nuts. Spent hours looking for a real fault before I realized the default had a zone set as "supervisory" for a sensor that didn't exist. Now I clear everything out and start from zero, even if it's just a basic eight zone job.

My mentor in Chicago said to always charge for a beard trim, even if it's quick.

Glad it worked out for you.

I finally talked to my neighbor about his kimchi setup and it changed my whole view.

It's like the old starter cultures they keep going for years. There's a reason those methods stick around.

Took my new $200 ultralight tent and my old 4-person dome on the same trip

Yeah, I had a similar thing happen with a fancy tarp setup. One gusty night and I was getting slapped in the face with wet nylon. Went back to my old reliable tent, the one that sounds like a sail in the wind but never actually moves. The weight penalty is real, but so is sleeping through a storm. For me, it's about where I'm hiking. Easy weekend trip? Maybe I'll go light. Anything where the weather might turn, I'm taking the bombproof shelter every time.

My neighbor's deck collapsed because he used drywall screws for the joist hangers

Drywall screws for a deck, that's a bold choice. Basically building a death trap with extra steps. My system is just leaving the right box of screws sitting on the project so I can't possibly grab the wrong ones. Still almost did it last week when I was tired.
