Took my new $200 ultralight tent and my old 4-person dome on the same trip

I mean, I get the hype for ultralight gear, but after a rough night in the White Mountains last month, I'm not sold. The ultralight tent was a flimsy mess in the wind, and I barely slept. My old heavy dome from 2015? Solid as a rock. It's like 8 pounds heavier, but idk, maybe it's just me but I'd rather carry the weight and actually get some rest. Has anyone else switched back to heavier, simpler gear after a bad experience with the fancy stuff?

Yeah, I had a similar thing happen with a fancy tarp setup. One gusty night and I was getting slapped in the face with wet nylon. Went back to my old reliable tent, the one that sounds like a sail in the wind but never actually moves. The weight penalty is real, but so is sleeping through a storm. For me, it's about where I'm hiking. Easy weekend trip? Maybe I'll go light. Anything where the weather might turn, I'm taking the bombproof shelter every time.

It's like how my phone case is a brick now because I got tired of cracked screens! Sometimes the extra bulk is just worth it for peace of mind.
