Had to pick between a 40k BTU burner and a 22k BTU one for the new line last month

I went with the higher output burner thinking it'd speed up service, but it scorched my pans and made it impossible to hold a steady simmer. Three weeks in and I'm already swapping it out for the smaller one. Has anyone else regretted going too big on heat output?

Trick for blending colors in Procreate that saved me hours of trial and error

I kept getting muddy results when I tried to blend two colors together in my digital paintings, especially skin tones. After like 5 or 6 failed attempts at a portrait last week, I finally tried the Gaussian blur on a separate layer set to soft light. I just painted the two colors next to each other, blurred them, and then lowered the opacity a bit. It gave me such a smooth transition without that gross smudge look. I know this is probably basic for some people here, but I've been doing digital art for maybe 6 months and nobody told me about this. Has anyone else found a weird unexpected method for blending that actually works better than the standard smudge tool?

That $60 drawing tablet from Amazon was a total waste of money

I bought one of those cheap no-name tablets off Amazon for like $60 back in March. The pen stopped working after maybe 2 weeks and the driver software was basically malware. I ended up just using my mouse for a month before I caved and got a proper used Wacom for $150. Has anyone else gotten burned by those budget tablets or did I just pick the wrong one?

Hit 300 arrowheads in my local creek and I'm officially worried

I've been surface hunting this one spot in the Little Miami River valley for about 10 years now. Last weekend I finally passed the 300 mark on points, and that number surprised me way more than I expected. The thing is, I'm pulling up mostly woodland period stuff, but the rate I'm finding them has dropped off hard in the last 2 years. I used to grab 15-20 per season, and now I'm lucky to get 5 or 6. It makes me wonder if amateur collectors like me are stripping sites faster than the state realizes. Has anyone else seen their local creek beds get noticeably picked over in the last decade?

Rant: That fancy butcher shop downtown doesn't know how to age beef

I stopped into The Local Meat Co. on 3rd Street last weekend, and I couldn't believe what I saw. They had a ribeye in the case labeled as 'dry aged 45 days' but it was wrapped in plastic and sat right next to the pork chops like it was nothing. No airflow, no humidity control - that meat was just sitting there losing moisture wrong. Has anyone else noticed these trendy shops faking it with aging claims?

Always been a broom finish guy until I watched this old timer on a job site

Last Wednesday I was pouring a driveway in Portland and this older finisher, must've been sixty five, was doing a swirl pattern on his slab. I always figured broom finish was faster and more reliable, but he bet me twenty bucks his swirl took less time. He was done ten minutes ahead of me and the finish looked way cleaner. Now I'm thinking about adding more pattern options to my regular work. Anyone else ever switch up their go-to finish because of something simple like that?

Heard a guy at the parts counter say fuel additives are just snake oil

I was picking up oil filters this morning and some dude in line was going off about how injector cleaners and cetane boosters are a waste of money. He claimed he's run 400k miles on his Cummins with nothing but pump diesel and hasn't had a single injector issue. Made me think about the $60 a month I spend on that stuff. Has anyone actually seen a fuel system problem get fixed by an additive, or is it all just preventative?

Hit 500 uses on my cheap shop vac filter before replacing it

I've been running the same basic filter on my Ridgid shop vac for about 18 months now. Mostly just cleaning up drywall dust and sawdust from weekend projects. I just tap it out against the trash can every few uses instead of buying new ones. Finally got clogged for real this weekend after I tracked the number and realized it was around 500 uses. Anyone else stretch their vacuum filters way past the recommended swap interval?

TIL the new auto parts store on 5th Street has a 'customer service' parrot in the back.

It squawked 'torque spec' at me three times while I was trying to find a thermostat gasket. Anyone else run into something this weird at a supplier?
