PSA: I keep seeing designers use the same three free fonts from that one website and it's making everything look the same

Yeah I used to skip the free ones. @leo_lopez changed my mind, some are really solid.

Took me three weeks to realize my kimchi wasn't bubbling because my apartment in Chicago stays too cold in winter.

Oh man, my buddy had the same problem. He ended up putting his sourdough starter on the cable box because it was the only warm spot in his whole drafty old place. Worked like a charm.

I just read that some of the first CAD software ran on computers with only 64KB of RAM

The Apollo guidance computer that landed on the moon had just 4KB of RAM. Engineers literally wove the software by hand with wires through magnetic cores. It makes that 64KB CAD machine look like a supercomputer in comparison. We've traded raw constraint for pure power, but sometimes I wonder if that limitation forced a clearer kind of thinking.

Pulled a job ticket for a 1920s house and the old wiring was a real shock

Man, that's a classic old house problem. I had the same thing with a doorbell transformer wire running alongside a BX cable for years. The fix that worked for me was just pulling a new shielded alarm cable through the same hole and grounding the shield at the panel. It killed the interference dead.

Pro tip: I hit 50 posts in our neighborhood watch group and realized I was giving terrible advice

Right, the "little rules stuck in our heads" thing. I see it all the time with home stuff, like people insisting you need to wash dishes with scalding hot water to kill germs. Most of the cleaning happens from the soap and scrubbing, not the water temp, but that idea is just baked in.
