Had to choose between a $200 donor body or a new shutter assembly for a Canon AE-1. Went with the donor, saved a client $150.

That 3D printed battery door fix @the_nina mentioned is pure genius.

Hot take: I used to fight with old wiring diagrams for hours before a job

That overlay tool sounds like a game changer. What software were you using before you found it, and was there a specific part of the learning curve that was tricky? I'm always trying to get our guys to move away from paper.

A building manager in Phoenix said they'd rather have old relay logic than a new controller

Ever try a hybrid system with simple relays backing up a basic controller?

Appreciation post: the Park Tool BBT-69.2 bottom bracket tool actually works

Yeah, that control thing is interesting. The old pin spanner felt more direct in your hands, like you could feel the metal flex. But that same flex is what lets it slip out under real force. The new spline tools are just a solid block of metal that can't twist away, so all your breaker bar force goes straight into the cup. It's less about feel and more about pure physics winning the fight.

Thinking about how our library's old floor sander finally gave out last month after smoothing probably 200 floors.

That old sander sounds like a real workhorse. Our branch had a similar thing happen with a heavy duty hole punch. The arm just snapped clean off. We ended up putting a picture of the old one on the donation jar with a note about how many years it served. People really connected with that and we got the replacement funded pretty quick. Sometimes showing the worn out tool does the trick.
