I showed my boss online pay data to get a raise, now my team is split

At my last review, I printed out local salary averages from LinkedIn. I talked about my projects first, then used the sheet to show I was below market. My boss appreciated the prep and we agreed on a fair raise.

TIL how much easier fault finding is now

The 2 AM log entry is normal, so the timestamp doesn't match the failure.

Shoutout to the guys who worked with asbestos before we knew better. Glad those days are gone.

The Triangle Shirtwaist Factory fire killed 146 people and basically created workplace safety rules. But it makes me wonder if we're actually applying those lessons proactively or just waiting for the next big disaster. Like, we had all the knowledge from that, but still needed the Grenfell Tower fire to expose new building material flaws. It feels like the rulebook only gets updated after something terrible happens, not before. Are we still just learning from tragedies, or have we built a system that can actually predict and stop them? Seems like we're stuck in reaction mode, lol.

My barista's morning rant sparked a whole character for my novel.

Grab a notebook and sit in a busy coffee shop. Write down bits of talk you hear, like how people argue about chores or gossip about neighbors. It shows how real talk flows and feels. I've done this to see how folks actually speak, not just how books say they should. What's the weirdest thing you've ever caught?

Seeing how BBQ joints in my city went from hole-in-the-wall spots to fancy places

Watched the same thing happen to coffee shops and dive bars. Everything gets polished until it feels a bit bland now.
