Nice save. That's the kind of fix you only learn from messing it up yourself first. When a frame is really out of whack, I've had to build it out with strips of scrap wood behind the trim to make everything flush. A little caulk and paint on those seams will make it all disappear.

Did they cut into the vertical sections or just comb through them? That direction seems like it would build way more movement into the shape, not just tidy it up. The whole foundation of the cut has to be different from the start.
