I keep seeing the same compressor fail in a new fridge line, and the maker won't own up to it

That's a really good way to handle it. I used to worry too, but protecting people from a bad buy builds more trust.

I thought two-step login was a hassle until someone tried to break into my email.

Ugh, yes, it's wild how common that is. My dad always used 1234 as his phone password until his coworker got their texts leaked, and now he's got a crazy long passcode and biometrics on everything. It's like we only care about locks after the house gets broken into, which is a risky way to live.

I used to help my dad fix our old lawn mower every summer, and it felt right.

Ugh, it's not just about the stuff breaking. The real loss is that we don't get to learn how things work anymore. That hands-on knowledge just disappears.

Rant: Always dodged classic novels until our club's old-school debate.

Wait, you were in a book club but actively avoided the classics until now? That's wild. The debate must have gotten pretty heated to finally break through. What book was it that changed your mind?

Kept my cool when the crane load started swinging

On my old Lima tower crane, we'd get sudden wind channels between buildings downtown. When a load starts dancing like that, I stop all swing motions immediately and just feather the boom hoist to lower it straight down. Fighting the pendulum with the trolley usually makes it worse. Sometimes you just have to let it hang there and settle for a minute before finishing the set. What's the wind speed limit on your site for lifts?
