Kept my cool when the crane load started swinging
Was lifting a beam and a gust of wind caught it. I eased it down safely without any damage. It's a good reminder to stay sharp out there.

On my old Lima tower crane, we'd get sudden wind channels between buildings downtown. When a load starts dancing like that, I stop all swing motions immediately and just feather the boom hoist to lower it straight down. Fighting the pendulum with the trolley usually makes it worse. Sometimes you just have to let it hang there and settle for a minute before finishing the set. What's the wind speed limit on your site for lifts?

Lowering it straight down sounds smart, but doesn't that risk catching the load on whatever is below if you have to hit a specific spot? I mean, on our site you'd have to drop it clear of everything and then re-sling it. What do you do when you actually need the beam in a tight spot and it's still swinging too much?
