I used to cut all my pixies with a 4 guard, but a client in Seattle last month asked for something softer and now I'm using a 2 and blending way more.

That's a solid upgrade. The 2 guard gives you way more room to play. You can actually build shape now instead of just taking everything down. Saw a stylist do a killer textured crop with a 2, used thinning shears just at the crown. Looked lived-in, not hacked in. Makes the whole cut feel less severe. Good move.

Thinning shears at the crown can actually make fine hair look wispy and thin.
