Pro tip: I got my car to start by turning the key exactly three times and waiting 12 seconds

My old Ford Focus in Phoenix wouldn't start last Tuesday, and I was stuck in a grocery store lot. Out of pure frustration, I turned the key to 'on' three times without cranking it, waited 12 seconds, and then tried. It fired right up like nothing was wrong. I've done it twice since when it acts up. Has anyone else had a car that needs a weird ritual like this?

Sounds like a fuel pump priming issue. That three-turn trick usually gets the pressure up. Might want to get the pump checked before it quits for good.

My old Civic was the same way. Had to pump the gas twice before turning the key.
