Vent: My backyard metal pouring for a fence repair is splitting opinions in my house.

I'm using my foundry skills to cast replacement parts for our old iron fence at home. My family says it's overkill and messy, but I think it's the right way to make durable fixes. Where do you stand on using trade techniques for personal projects?

See this all the time: tradespeople overcomplicating home projects.

Honestly, your family has a point here. Setting up a whole foundry operation for a few fence parts is a huge time sink and creates way more mess than a simple weld or a replacement bracket from the hardware store. That specialized trade mindset can blind you to the practical, easy solution right in front of you. Sometimes the "right way" is just the most direct way to get the job done without turning your yard into a mini factory.
