Hot take: That fancy new ceramic coating for crucibles is a total waste of cash
I bought into the hype and spent $450 on a kit from a trade show vendor. They said it would triple the lifespan of my pots. After three months, the coating started to flake into the melt, ruining a $2000 batch of bronze. My old method of just keeping them clean and not overheating them works fine. Has anyone else had a bad run with these 'miracle' coatings, or did I just get a bad batch?

Ugh, that's brutal. Sounds like the coating can't handle the actual thermal stress, so it fails exactly when you need it most. I'd stick with your old method, it's proven.

Reminds me of a guy who swore by a special flux that was supposed to prevent oxidation completely. It just made a weird crust that trapped gas bubbles.
