That moment my PS2 laser finally stopped spinning discs after 20 years
Was trying to play SSX Tricky last week and the console just sat there clicking. Took it apart on my kitchen counter, found the laser sled was bone dry on grease. Dab of white lithium on the rails and it fired right up. Did you have to replace the whole laser assembly on yours or just clean the lens?

Actually the lithium grease thing isn't quite right for these lasers. You want a specific silicone-based grease on the rails, not white lithium - that stuff can get tacky over time and gum up the sled. I learned this the hard way when my fix only lasted a few months before the clicking came back worse than before.

honestly @hugo_moore i tried the silicone grease route first on my LG WH16NS60 and it actually made the sled drag worse after like 2 weeks. switched back to a tiny dab of white lithium on the plastic gears only and its been smooth for over a year now. i think the key is just using the tiniest amount possible, like a grain of rice max, and making sure none gets on the actual laser lens or ribbon cable. the lithium gets tacky if you cake it on but with a micro amount it stays fine.
