TIL most people forget to check the sewer line before buying a house
I had a home inspection done on a place in Columbus last month and everything looked fine on paper. But my dad who's a plumber told me to get a sewer scope done separately for $150. Turns out there were tree roots growing through the clay pipe and it would have cost me $6,000 to fix after moving in. Has anyone else had a surprise like this from something the standard inspection missed?

Happened to my brother when he bought his first house in Cleveland. He skipped the sewer scope because the inspector said it was optional, then three months later his basement flooded with sewage. Cost him almost 8 grand to dig up the line and replace it. That $150 scope is honestly the cheapest insurance you could ever buy for a house.

That story makes me wonder how many people learn that lesson the hard way every single year.
