That $500 home inspection saved me from a money pit
I put an offer on a cute little bungalow in Denver and paid $500 for a full inspection. The inspector found old polybutylene pipes hiding behind the drywall that would have burst within a year. Got out of the deal and dodged a $10k plumbing nightmare. Has anyone else had an inspection catch something sneaky like that?

Ngl, you kinda overpaid for a scare tactic. Those old poly pipes are easy to spot without x-ray vision - a good DIY look would've caught that too. Half the time these inspections just freak you out about stuff that might not even fail before you sell anyway.

Funny you mention that... I had a similar scare with my old place a few years back. Inspector flagged the poly pipes and said they'd blow any day now. I just kept an eye on them myself every couple months instead of dropping big money on replacing everything. Ended up selling the house three years later with no issues at all and the buyer's inspector didn't even mention them. So yeah, sometimes you gotta trust your own eyes over a sales pitch in a hard hat.
