Spent $40 on a fancy fermentation weight set and it was a complete waste
I got a set of glass weights that were supposed to fit my wide-mouth jars perfectly. They were too small and kept sliding sideways, letting my kraut float up. After two batches got moldy, I went back to using a ziploc bag filled with brine, which costs maybe a penny. The weights are now sitting in a drawer. Has anyone else had better luck with a specific brand or style of weight that actually stays put?

Actually, those glass weights can work great if you get the right size. Maybe you just got a bad set or the wrong fit for your specific jars. A lot of people swear by them because they're easy to clean and don't hold smells like plastic bags can. It might be worth trying a different brand before giving up on the idea completely. Sometimes the simple tools just need a little tweak to work right.

But which brands actually get the sizing right consistently? I've heard some are cut too small and just tip over. It's hard to know what to trust without buying a bunch.
