My grandma insisted I use a cabbage leaf to weigh down my sauerkraut

I thought it was an old wives' tale, but after 2 weeks it kept everything submerged perfectly and no mold. Anyone have other simple weight tricks that actually work?

Oh wow, my aunt uses a clean rock for the same thing and it works like a charm!
