Drove 4 hours for a shoeing and the horse was perfect
Had a gig up near Spokane last Thursday. 3 hour drive each way. Horse stood like a rock for all 4 shoes. No fighting, no leaning on me. Owner even had coffee waiting. That never happens on a long drive job. Made my whole week honestly. Anyone else have those rare days where everything just clicks?

Spokane is brutal for a drive. I did a job out there once in January, snow on the ground, trucks sliding everywhere. Horse was a draft cross too, big old boy. He stood like a saint while I hammered on his feet. Owner brought me a plate of cookies and a thermos of coffee. It's those moments that keep me from quitting this job. Cherish the good ones, man.

Plate of cookies and a thermos of coffee" - that's the dream right there. I had a similar deal last fall with an old mustang gelding out in the sticks. He had weirdly sensitive feet but I just took my time, did one hoof at a time with lots of breaks in between. Owner stayed nearby and kept giving me water bottles and just chatted about trail riding. Sometimes it's the simple stuff that makes the day good.
