TIL my old habit of just tossing loose drill bits in a drawer was costing me time and money on every project.
After losing a 3/8 inch bit for the third time last month, I started storing them stuck into a block of scrap foam, which my uncle in Phoenix called 'the contractor's filing cabinet', and now I can find the right size in under 10 seconds.

That foam trick is such a simple fix for a dumb problem we all have. It reminds me of how the best solutions usually come from just working with what's already around, like how @sanchez.sean used a pool noodle. My whole garage is full of those little hacks that save more time than any fancy tool. What's the one thing you fixed with a piece of junk that actually worked better than the store-bought version?

That foam block trick is a total game changer, honestly. I used to keep mine in those little plastic cases they come in, but then the lids always crack. Now I just push them into an old pool noodle cut in half, it works the same way. What do you do with the really tiny bits, like for electronics?
