Serious question, I thought letting clients skip the consult was no big deal
I figured if they knew what they wanted, it was fine to just do the treatment. But a client with rosacea had a major flare-up after I caved. Now I never start without a full skin check first.

That "major flare-up" line really hits home. It reminds me of when I used to do hair color and a client swore she had no previous dye. I skipped the strand test, and let's just say we ended up with a very unexpected shade of green. It was a mess that took hours to fix. You just never know what someone might forget to mention, or what their skin or hair is really hiding. Now I treat every first meeting like a detective interview.

My cousin asked me to cut his hair once and I skipped the whole "what do you want" talk. Let's just say he looked like a toilet brush for a solid month lmao. Never making that mistake again.

Faith_henderson69 is right about needing to ask questions, but sometimes people genuinely don't know what they want. You have to guide them with pictures or examples, because just asking can leave you both lost. It turns a bad guess into a real plan.
