Just read that plywood with more than 5 plys is actually weaker in some situations - any truth to this?

Honestly, I remember my buddy tried using some high-ply stuff for a shed roof and it just started peeling apart at the edges after one winter. He got that 13-ply fancy marine grade stuff but the glue was the wrong type for the moisture around here. Ended up having to cut out whole sections and replace them with plain old 7-ply from the big box store, that stuff's still holding up fine after three years now.

The old Miconic 10 controller swap in that 1980s office tower was a night and day difference from start to finish

We did a similar swap on a Miconic 10 from 1987 in a medical building. The old board had burn marks on the back from a capacitor leak. New iControl system fixed all the leveling issues and the door timers are finally sane. Commissioning took a full week because the power supply for the car lights was tied into the old controller and we had to rework the whole junction box.

Went back to a coworking space after 4 years of solo coffee shop work

Four years ago I was the guy spilling coffee on my keyboard while rambling about my startup that definitely wasn't gonna work, and now I walk into this same space and feel like I need to file a noise complaint when my chair squeaks. @the_phoenix hit the nail on the head about the silence - last week I actually apologized to someone for typing too loud, which is absurd when you think about it. It's like we all signed an unspoken contract to be serious and productive, and somewhere along the way we forgot coworking used to mean actually working together.

Stuck on a job in a crawlspace with a bad ladder made me rethink my whole setup...

Stomp the base down first to seat the feet before you climb. That worked better for me than wetting them.

Old timer named Chuck told me to stop using thinning shears on curly hair years ago

Took me way too long to admit this but yeah, shears are awful on curls (especially dry ones). I was stubborn for years thinking they were saving time, but really I was just creating frizz and weird uneven layers. Once I switched to point cutting like Chuck said, my clients actually started coming back because their curls didn't look hacked up after.
