Common sense isn't common.
The OSHA rule for silica dust is seriously no joke. My old foreman has a cough that sounds like gravel in a bag, and he blames it on twenty years of "toughing it out" on drywall jobs. That fine powder gets everywhere and your body can't really get it out. It's one of those things you don't respect until you're hacking up grey gunk for a week.
