My plotter at the shop just ate a $300 sheet of Mylar yesterday

The feed rollers slipped and it dragged the sheet sideways, creasing the whole thing. I had to re-plot the entire site plan from the backup files, which took three hours. Has anyone else had this happen with older Roland units?

I heard that about older Roland units and feed rollers slipping (maybe a tension thing?). That three hour re-plot sounds brutal.

Yeah, that "feed rollers slipping" thing is a classic. It's not just the rollers themselves wearing down, it's the whole pinch roller assembly getting weak. The spring loses tension over the years, so it can't grip the vinyl tight enough, especially on a long cut. You'll see it start to skip on detailed curves or when the plotter head makes a sudden move. That's when you get those little jagged lines instead of a smooth cut.
