My plumber cousin in Boise told me to always use a 1/2-inch pipe for the main water line, not 3/8.
He said the extra cost is minimal but the flow difference is huge, especially for a second-floor bathroom. Anyone else have a rule of thumb for sizing supply lines?

Wait, your cousin is still using 3/8 inch for a main line? That's wild lol. That size is basically for a single fixture, not feeding a whole house. The pressure drop on a second floor with 3/8 would be a joke, you'd get a trickle from the shower.
