Wasted $220 on a heat gun that melted my asphalt patch job

Back in March I bought this industrial heat gun from a big box store in Akron thinking it'd speed up crack sealing. I got so confident I used it on a cold morning patch, and it turned the whole area into a sticky mess that took me 3 hours to scrape off. The $12 torch from my plumbing drawer would've worked WAY better if I just read the product warnings first. Has anyone else ruined a patch trying to speed things up with the wrong gear?
