Pothole patch washed out after 2 days, switched to cold mix on a 40-degree morning

My driveway in Spokane turned into a gravel pit after that rain hit the hot pour I laid Sunday, so I dug it out 4 inches deep, tamped the base, and used the bagged cold mix with a plate compactor I rented for $35, has anyone else had better luck waiting till the ground warms up before patching in early spring?
