Tried WiFi calling in a Thai coffee shop and it was a disaster

I used to rely on roaming data for Zoom calls, but last week in Chiang Mai I thought WiFi calling would save me $15 on a data pass. Instead, my voice kept cutting out and the barista handed me a note that said "your robot is broken" with a smiley face. Has anyone else had a coworking space fail in a way that made total strangers comment on your tech?

Roaming data is like $10 for a week these days, is it really worth messing with WiFi calling just to save a few bucks? Sounds like the barista was just messing with you, not like the call was actually broken bad enough to ruin your day. I've had Skype go fuzzy in a cafe before and nobody handed me a passive aggressive note about it. Maybe the problem was the coffee shop's router being overloaded with tourists, not the technology itself being a disaster.

Bet dude, you're totally missing the point. WiFi calling is clutch when you're in a spot with weak signal but solid internet, and coffee shops usually have decent routers. The barista's note was just a joke, not some deep tech critique. Roaming data can still drop calls or drain your battery faster, especially if you're hopping between spots all day. Sounds like you had a one-off bad experience, not a reason to trash the whole feature.
