That week in Chiang Mai when my laptop charger died
It was 2018 and I was working from a cafe on Nimman Road, trying to hit a deadline. My charger sparked and died, and I spent the next three hours walking to four different malls trying to find a replacement that fit my model. The whole day was shot, and it really made me appreciate how much we rely on one small piece of gear. What's the most annoying gear failure you've had on the road?

Honestly used to think carrying a spare phone cable was overkill. That changed when mine frayed and broke in a tiny town with one shop that only sold flip phone chargers. Had to use a terrible internet cafe computer for two days just to check maps and messages, it was the worst.

My cousin got stuck at the Denver airport overnight with a dead phone and no charger. He ended up buying a thirty dollar cable from one of those newsstand kiosks because it was the only place open. He said the markup felt like pure robbery, but he had no other choice. It definitely made him start packing a spare in his carry-on bag every single trip.
