Question about making local friends when you're only passing through

It's hard to invest in people when you know you'll leave in a month.

Try meetups or apps for travelers... locals often up for short hangs.

Those apps can get weirdly competitive. Saw a guy in Bangkok offering free temple tours just to beat the other "local experience" listings. Creates a strange vibe where you're basically shopping for people.
