Update on my bull float technique after a job in Springfield

I used to think you had to really push down on the bull float to get a smooth finish, you know, put your weight into it. Then this older finisher I was working with on a garage slab in Springfield last month watched me for a minute and said, 'You're fighting it. Let the tool do the work, it's not a shovel.' He showed me how to just glide it, keeping it flat and using a lighter touch. I mean, I was skeptical, but I tried it his way. The concrete laid down way easier and I didn't get those little ridges I sometimes would. It felt smoother and I wasn't as tired at the end of the day. Has anyone else had someone point out a basic thing you were overcomplicating?

Wait, is it really that big of a deal? I just push the float and it works fine for me.

You ever try just jiggling the handle? That's what finally stopped mine from running.
