A client in Dallas told me my advice was too general to be useful

They said 'telling me to 'network more' is like telling a fish to swim, give me a specific person to email or an event to go to,' so now I always include at least one concrete action step, like 'email the organizer of the Tech Meetup on Elm Street before Friday.'

My friend's client said the same thing last month.

That's interesting, grace_chen. It makes me wonder if there's a bigger pattern here that we're missing. Maybe the client and your friend's client both heard the same bad advice from somewhere else. Sometimes these ideas spread through online forums or social media before most people catch on. It would help to know where they got the idea in the first place.
