TIL I've ground 300 pounds of beans at home and my $18 hand grinder finally died
I did the math this morning and realized I've gone through 300 pounds of beans on a cheap Hario Skerton I bought in 2019. The burr wobble got so bad that my French press was full of mud every single morning, but I just kept grinding because I'm stubborn. My wife finally watched me crank for 4 minutes on a light roast and told me to just buy a real grinder. So what's the actual upgrade that won't make me feel dumb for waiting this long?

That Hario burr wobble is no joke. I had the same grinder for two years and my French press always tasted like silt. You got your money's worth at 300 pounds, that is about 3 cents a pound which is wild. The jump to a decent burr grinder will blow your mind because the grounds come out even and your coffee stops turning to mud. A Baratza Encore or a 1Zpresso hand grinder would both treat you right and last way longer. Waiting this long was not dumb, you just did not know what you were missing until your wife called it out.
