Pro tip: a barista in Portland told me to try a pinch of salt in my coffee grounds
I was at a small shop called Puddle Town Roasters last week, and the person making my pour-over added a tiny bit of salt directly to the grounds before brewing. They said it cuts bitterness without needing sugar. Has anyone else tried this trick with their home setup?

How much salt are we talking here? I tried a tiny pinch in my French press and it actually worked pretty well.

Yeah, a tiny pinch is the way to go. I use about two or three grains of coarse salt for a full pot. It just cuts the bitterness without making the coffee taste salty at all. More than that and you'll totally ruin it.
