I used to think electric cars were just a rich person's toy until my friend let me drive his for a week

My buddy in Portland got a used Nissan Leaf last year and kept telling me how cheap it was to run. I figured he was just trying to make himself feel better about spending so much. Then my car was in the shop and he let me borrow his Leaf for 7 days. I drove about 200 miles that week, mostly to work and the store. Charging it at home cost me less than $15 total. My old Honda would have used over $40 in gas for the same trips. The real shock was the quiet ride and how quick it felt from a stop. I'm not ready to buy one yet, but it totally changed my mind. Has anyone else had a simple test drive or experience that made you see an eco-friendly option differently?

Try a rental for a weekend to really get a feel.

That's honestly the best advice for anything with a big price tag. Renting our camper van for a trip totally changed my mind, saved me from a huge mistake. You notice all the little annoying stuff you'd never think about just looking at pictures.
