Appreciation post: My total 180 on turning off power strips

Ngl, I used to think power strips were just for extra plugs and never bothered to switch them off. Honestly, I figured my little habits didn't affect the bigger climate picture at all. But then my buddy showed me his energy monitor, and the numbers were eye-opening. Tbh, seeing how much juice my TV and game console sucked up on standby changed my mind. Now, I flip the switch every night before bed, and it's become second nature. It's a small milestone, but I feel better knowing I'm cutting down on useless energy use. My electric bill is a bit lower, which is a nice bonus. Honestly, it's cool how one simple change can feel like a real step forward.

Totally get that. It feels silly until you see the numbers. Funny how fast it becomes a habit though.

Wait, is the tiny bit of standby power really that big a deal? I mean, I get the good feeling, but I've always heard things like fridges and water heaters use way more power than any standby stuff. Maybe it's just me, but flipping switches on a bunch of strips every night feels like a hassle for almost no real gain. I'd rather just unplug the one or two big vampire items I know about, like an old charger. The strip thing seems like focusing on a super small drop in a huge bucket.
