Heard a guy at the supply house say he's only using one type of pad now

I was grabbing some tack strips yesterday and overheard another installer telling the counter guy he's switched to using nothing but 8-pound rebond for every residential job for the last six months. He said it's cut his callbacks for seam issues by a ton because it's so firm. I've always picked the pad based on the carpet, so this got me thinking. Is anyone else moving away from matching pad weight to carpet type and just sticking with one heavy-duty option?

Yeah, that's a solid point about firmness. I've been leaning towards heavier pads too, just for the overall durability.

Totally, I switched to 8-pound and it's a total game changer.
