Debate: Are those expensive knee kickers worth it or a waste of cash?

A buddy swears by his pricey one and says it saved him time on a tricky staircase install. I'm out the extra cash and wondering if I just bought hype. Has anyone else regretted spending big on a tool that didn't deliver? Or do you think the higher price actually pays off in the long run?

Yeah but that staircase install probably paid for the tool right there.

Yeah that's a fair point @the_angela but I feel like that kind of thinking gets people into trouble all the time. Everyone talks about "the tool paid for itself on the first job" but nobody mentions the other 10 tools they bought that are still sitting in the garage collecting dust lol. I've seen guys drop $500 on a nail gun for one deck project then never use it again. The real win is when you can rent something or borrow from a buddy instead of buying another thing you'll trip over for years. But yeah if you're actually gonna use that stair jig regularly then sure you come out ahead no question.
