That comment from a hiring manager finally clicked for me
I was at a networking event downtown last month and overheard a hiring manager from a tech firm say something that stuck with me. She said most candidates can do the job, but the ones who get hired are the ones who show they actually want the job. That sounds obvious, but it made me think about my own applications. I realized I was just listing my skills and experience without ever really expressing why I wanted that specific role or company. So I rewrote my cover letter for a position I applied to two weeks ago. I focused on what I liked about their projects and how my background fit their culture. I got a call back in three days. Has anyone else had a similar wake-up call from a random comment?

Nail that part about actually wanting the job vs just listing skills. Most of us miss that completely.
