Paid $400 for a resume rewrite and it got me zero calls back

I was stuck in my job search for months, so I shelled out for a 'professional' service. They gave me this fancy, keyword-stuffed document that felt totally fake. I sent it out to 30 places over two weeks and didn't get a single interview request. Now I'm out that cash and more confused than ever. What's a better way to actually stand out to hiring managers?

Ugh that "keyword-stuffed document that felt totally fake" is the worst. I did the same thing and it got me nowhere. What finally worked was making a simple, clean resume that just talked about my actual work in plain English. I picked my two or three biggest wins from past jobs and wrote a short bullet point for each, like "managed the budget and saved 10% on costs." I sent that version to maybe five places I really liked and got two calls. Fancy resumes just get filtered out, real talk seems to get to a person.

Actually, those keyword filters are real, but they're just the first step. You still need a human sounding resume to get past the actual hiring manager.
