Unpopular opinion: I was routing a dado for a built-in in a client's Denver kitchen and the bit grabbed, sending the entire 8-foot maple panel flying across the room.

Has anyone else had a router bit grab like that, and what's your go-to method for keeping long panels stable (I was using featherboards, but clearly not enough)?

Featherboards need a solid fence behind them.

Totally agree with what grant.parker said about needing a solid fence. I tried using one on a wobbly setup once and it just pushed the board sideways... it was a mess. Ended up screwing a straight piece of plywood to the back of my workbench as a fence and it made all the difference. That solid backing lets the featherboard do its job and keeps everything stable.
